2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland 4x4 Review

With the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland’s advanced four-wheel drive, adjustable air suspension and five different terrain settings, drivers can feel confident taking this versatile SUV anywhere. It is more sophisticated than ever, offers plenty of cargo space, but watch out for your MPG. Our stylish blue pearl tester with leather seats with edge welting yielded only 15 MPG of combined city and highway driving experiences. However, we didn’t take the Grand Cherokee off-roading, which is probably the case for most owners, although it is very capable with its ride height and sophisticated transmission. Throw in all of today’s expected electronic accoutrements, an HD radio with a 506-watt amplifier, bi-xenon HID headlamps, leather here, wood there and you have a truly contemporary Jeep. General Patton would have loved it.

For more power, there is the sport-tuned SRT version, starting at $65,000; going the other way, for more fuel economy and range — 30 MPG and 700 miles on one tank — you can opt for a diesel model that starts at $55,000. Our Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland came with a nice, safety-oriented optional equipment package ($1,695): think adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning with mitigation, advanced brake assist, blind spot detection and rear cross-path detection. A good value, especially for a car of this size. Overall, we liked the elegant Jeep Grand Cherokee as a multi-purpose family vehicle.
