short: The stylish, practical hatchback gets a makeover.
2014 Kia Soul ! Review
For 2014, the versatile Kia Soul hatchback gets updated sheet-metal and a more solid-feeling chassis, plus some new technology options. Still a practical car with ample cargo space and generous interior room, the 2014 model retains much of the earlier model’s charm. The 2014 Kia Soul is slightly longer, lower and wider, distinguished by new lights and new flared wheel arches that give the car a vaguely more aggressive stance.
Thanks in part to the memorable commercial featuring dancing hamsters, the previous Kia Soul was quite successful, and for this second generation, Kia chose to stick pretty close to the formula of the original. That means a versatile, boxy hatchback aimed at youngish city dwellers. The 2014 Kia soul is well suited to Ikea visits, trips to the dog-park, and urban adventures. It also makes a good choice for those needing space for bicycles.
Our Alien II Green test car was priced at $26,195. That seems a little steep for a Kia Soul, but, to be fair, our ! model came loaded with just about every option you could order. This included the $2,600 sun and sound package, giving it automatic climate control, a panoramic sunroof, the Infinity audio system and navigation with SIRIUS XM traffic. The $2,500 “whole shebang package” added HID lights, push-button start, heated and ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel and an engine immobilizer anti-theft device. This represents a lot of kit for the money, and even at lesser trim levels, the Kia Soul provides good value as a space efficient city car.
