The 2015 Jaguar F-TYPE R Coupe offers a 550-horsepower supercharged V8 along with an electronic active differential, the 8-speed QuickShift transmission and an unquestionably sexy shape. More than just an F-TYPE roadster with a roof on its head, the F-TYPE R Coupe is Jaguar’s most serious effort at a series-production, high-performance sports car since the E-Type of 40 years ago.
Starting with an aluminum, high-strength steel and composite monocoque that Jaguar says is their most rigid of any production car to date, the F-TYPE R adds its supercharged V8, an electronic active limited slip differential, and an adaptive damping system capable of adjusting compression and rebound stiffness in half a second.
All this adds up to the fastest production Jaguar ever to lap the Nürburgring, and the first time the British brand has offered serious competition to the likes of the Porsche 911 Turbo and Nissan GT-R. Track-bound examples of the F-TYPE R are offered with Jaguar’s carbon ceramic brake upgrade, each set of which is bedded-in and tested before it leaves the factory.
The F-TYPE R also features an active rear spoiler, which, thankfully, doesn’t spoil the car’s shape when standing still. It only rises as you accelerate past 70 mph, then deferentially gets out of the way, like a stage hand, when you slow back down.
